With business and non-profit budgets tightening, the Lake Superior Leadership Committee recognizes the importance that scholarship dollars provide for future Academy participants. In 2005, the Committee instituted the Leadership Legacy Program, designed to provide scholarship dollars for potential class participants from previous class participants. The Lake Superior Leadership Academy (LSLA) is an eight-month program run by the Lake Superior Community Partnership that brings together potential leaders from across Marquette County to strengthen individual leadership abilities and encourage participants to personally commit to assuming new leadership roles in their communities.
The Legacy Program was kicked off by LSLA committee members donating $25 each. Larger donations were also secured from past participants, a local news magazine, and local business. Altogether nearly $700 was raised to help other Marquette County residents experience the value of the Leadership Academy: expanding their professional networks, enhancing their knowledge of the Marquette County community, and learning ways to increase their leadership skills and abilities.
John Frick, LSLA Class of 2000 and past Steering Committee Chair states, “I realize and value the important work of the Academy: the networking, the opportunities for growth and learning, the chance to make a difference. The Leadership Legacy Program will allow for future Academy participants to gain the same experiences that I had and to strengthen the future of our region.”
